In short, the difference is speed. Our regular VPS platform delivers enough computing performance for most business needs, at a lower price. The platform is built on incredibly reliable, high-quality hardware and a battled hardened technology stack we've been running for well over a decade. High Performance Virtual Servers are built for intensive computing. High-spec hardware includes Ryzen 9 CPUs (which are so new that they have only been available in our Dedicated Servers for a few months), and the platform is managed via a newly-built virtualisation layer. It’s an entirely different platform built for a more demanding audience.

A Virtual Server (VPS) has the lowest cost and is the only option with no contract term. They offer fewer resources, some of which are shared between multiple VPSs. A Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) costs more, because you get more. It has dedicated resources and hardware (like drives) while still being virtualised. This means you get a huge amount of resources without having to pay for all the hardware and associated costs yourself. Finally there are Dedicated Servers which are entire machines for your exclusive use. These offer the most power and are the only option that gives you a whole physical server to yourself. This can make them more expensive and less fault tolerant than virtual offerings.

A VPS is powerful and configurable, which makes it a good fit for teams with an experienced sysadmin on board. It's also a good option when you require root or administrator access. We have a number of plans to cover almost every size project.

24/7 Management is a highly recommended optional extra, especially if your server will be hosting critical applications or websites where uptime is important. Problems arise, downtime happens, and you always have something else to be doing rather than worrying about infrastructure. NVMe (non-volatile memory express) is a faster form of data storage. We offer NVMe as standard because we don't think anyone should be slowed down by their hard drive. Technically, NVMe is the transfer protocol for accessing data quickly from a solid-state drives (SSD).
