Wedoo are New Zealand's leading Odoo consultancy, so when their clients wanted to see hard data on different hosting options, they knew what to do.
Wedoo's experts wrote fourteen benchmark tests specifically to assess Odoo performance.
Based on real-life data, Wedoo modelled three Odoo clients of different size and complexity.
The same benchmarking was run on a SiteHost High Performance Virtual Server and an AWS EC2 instance.
Wedoo chose to use Grafana's open source k6 testing tool, and the test engineer even published the testing scripts on Github.
'List' tests paged through list views, repeatedly reading a small set of fields for 80 records. 'Form' tests viewed a single record with a large set of fields.
Because of their tendency to run slower than other functions, accounting reports received their own suite of tests with longer durations.
Wedoo's model of a small client had 10 users, a 1GB database, and a low level of customisation, totalling ~10,000 lines of code.
The medium client model was based on a business with around 25 users, a ~10GB database, and moderate Odoo customisation (~20k lines of code).
Wedoo's large test subject was modelled on a client with around 150 users, a ~75GB database, and a lot of customisations (around 100k lines of code).
Running in our Auckland Data Centre, we supplied a High Performance Virtual Server with a Ryzen 9 CPU, 8 virtual cores, 32GB RAM and 128GB of NVMe storage.
On AWS Wedoo opted for an EC2, specifically a t3.2xlarge instance with a Xeon Platinum 8000 CPU, 8 cores, 32GB RAM, and storage from an EBS volume.

We’ve moved away from Xero, Pipedrive, Excel spreadsheets and Word docs. Things are much better now. We saw Odoo as a customisable, mid-level ERP which made it a good option. Odoo is very customisable, so we can pay Wedoo to make Odoo do whatever we want. The core function of quoting and processing jobs, and customer proofs, is working well and we're saving time. We haven't had any problems with the speed of the system as far as the server side of things goes. It’s been good. Now it’s just a question of how fast we fill that server up!

We don't only beat AWS. Sysbench testing shows how our High Performance servers easily outpace a set of similarly priced competitors from Vultr, Linode (Akamai), and DigitalOcean as well. Our latency was lowest, too.
We migrated an important New Zealand site from a major NZ hosting provider to SiteHost. This major provider had the system set up across six servers, three each for production and testing, each with four cores and 8 or 16GB. It cost Panel Quote a fortune to try and go to Azure, because the supplier didn't appear to know what they were talking about in relation to our software, from our perspective.
