We have now added a new SSL Certificates module, which is used for storing custom certificates, to the Control Panel. While Cloud Containers' automatic SSL feature is enough for most customers, you may still find the odd occasion where this comes in handy.
The ability to store and manage custom SSL certificates actually goes back to Cloud Containers' ancient forerunner, Cloud Hosting. If you’ve been with us for a long time you may remember (or even still use) that platform's SSL offering. Today's change makes the same functionality easier to find and use.
What can I do with the new module?
If you manage your own custom certificates you can now import them into the Control Panel for easy management. They can be downloaded at any time for deployment.
Need a new SSL certificate? You can now order one directly through the Control Panel, and we’ll handle the rest of the process for you.
There's more about this module in the Knowledge Base.
Do I need a custom SSL certificate?
In the majority of cases, no. Our automatic SSL should fit the bill for most scenarios. However a custom certificate can be handy if you have special requirements like:
additional domain validation
coverage of multiple domains
the desire to manage things yourself.
You'll see this new module in the menu next time you log into SiteHost.
